The Fox Club
San Ignacio and Santa Elena fall into the "more treking, less fancy" catagory of places in Belize. If you want nice shops and fancy golf carts, you won't find them here. What you will find is the Fox Club. It's a cross between colonial, modern and just plain swank.
The Bar was built years ago and has been added to over the years by a number of people. It sits on the bank of the Macal River on the Santa Elena side and has seating for around 130 people. From the out side patio, the bank drops down 20ft to the river and you get a 180 degree view. The other bonus is that it's facing west so around 6:30 you get best view of the sunset over San Ignacio, Belize.
The owner is a firm believer in "a little something for everyone", so you'll find a litte something for everyone. There are a couple of dart boards, Karaoke on Wednesday nights and Wednesday afternoons are what's refered to as "gringo day". There are bookshelves around the inside of the bar, board games, soon to be a coffee shop and Trivia on Tuesdays. Every other Saturday there's live music and happy hour is 4-7 every day.
There is a map to the Fox Club on the photos page. It's about an 8 min walk from the center of town and if you don't feel like walking, the bar will pay for taxis over (three or more people to a car). If you are driving, there is some parking inside the gate and parking on the street. The hours are 10am to 12am (but on occasion, after midnight, the gate gets closed and we turn it into a private party).
